Five Star Weekend • Kath Eats

A recap of our weekend trip to the Outer Banks!

Five star weekend!

If you’re wondering if I’m reading Elin Hilderbrand’s book The five star weekend The answer is yes! It’s really good and was the perfect book to accompany crabs and a breezy beach walk.

Also highly recommended: Wondry’s true crime podcast called Over my dead body: gone hunting that we heard on the way to the Outer Banks. It was great!!!

A family affair

My in-laws go to the beach every September for two weeks with the Bowe family in New Jersey. All the adults are here for two weeks, and the kids (who are adults now too, haha) usually come during the weekend in between. It’s always great to catch up and enjoy the beach when the crowds have thinned out.

The Donnes!

Yes, Thomas and his dad are clones 🙂

Run to the ocean

Mandatory “we arrive” race to put our toes in the water.

Boil at low temperature

Upon our arrival on Thursday night, they had a country boil waiting for dinner!

Brioche French Toast Casserole

Good day!

Wind + Surf

The first two days we were there, Hurricane Lee was offshore creating giant waves and currents.

It was difficult to walk on the beach, it was very windy and yet we were so far from the hurricane that we had sunny skies. I can’t imagine being closer. We watched movies and did puzzles!

ancient!

And I spent a lot of time in the jacuzzi!

beach sandwiches

The best! I also brought my AG1 since I don’t usually eat salads on the beach 🙂

trip for children

Nona took the kids to the aquarium, Captain Franks, and the candy store (her annual tradition) so Thomas and I had some time to relax.

We didn’t swim but we did enjoy the jacuzzi!

And lots of puzzle + reading time.

TGF the jacuzzi!

lasagna night

We made lasagna and Nona made her famous cake for dessert!

Saturday: on the beach but not in the water

John Donne’s famous granola on cottage cheese! Here is the recipe: Walnut Granola.

We enjoyed time at the beach, but the ocean was still too rough for swimming.

The kids went to play mini golf and make snow cones.

Crab night!

Our favorite OBX food. We ate more than 40 crabs!

The ultimate beach beer

sunday morning waffles

John Donne!

Sunday was the perfect beach day.

The waves were calm, the sun was out and the temperatures were perfect.

The big ones didn’t leave the ocean for many hours!

Mike’s grill outside

Mike and Andy prepared steaks, chicken and grilled vegetables – a delicious end to our trip!

Somehow this bottle of wine ended up in the kitchen! 🙂

The sun sets on another great seaside visit

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
